Legendary L.A. bassist Leland (Lee) Sklar has been a prominent session player and touring artist for over four decades. Almost as iconic as his long flowing beard, his distinctive style and ability to come up with the perfect bassline have propelled him to the pinnacle of his profession.
Lee’s bass playing can be heard on over 2500 recordings (and counting) for a gallery of music icons, including Phil Collins, Billy Cobham, Rod Stewart, Linda Ronstadt, James Taylor, Hall & Oates, Jackson Browne, Tommy Bolin, David Bowie, Ray Charles, B.B. King, The Doors, Peter Frampton, Aaron Neville, Lyle Lovett and countless others. He has also played bass for countless TV shows, including Hill Street Blues, The Rockford Files, L.A. Law, Knight Rider and Simon & Simon, and has performed on the soundtracks of many motion pictures, including Forrest Gump, Ghost, Kindergarten Cop, and My Best Friend’s Wedding.
Lee was the bass player for the band Toto from 2007 to 2008. He was also part of James Taylor and Carole King’s Troubadour Reunion Tour in 2010, which featured the reunion of Leland with James for the first time since 1989. Joining Lee on the tour were Danny Kortchmar and Russ Kunkel, who not only played with him on all of Taylor’s seminal recordings, but formed the nucleus of the L.A. studio A-team band “The Section”, and performed with Jackson Browne on the brilliant live record “Running On Empty”.
