Vonda Shepard

Most widely known as the featured pianist and vocalist on the Ally McBeal show, Vonda Shepard’s career has ranged from being the pianist for singers such as Rickie Lee Jones, Al Jarreau, and Jackson Browne to being a successful and celebrated singer-pianist on her own.

Vonda secured her first solo deal with Reprise Records in 1987 and two years later her eponymous album was released. The Top 10 AC and VH1 single “Don’t Cry Ilene” brought her inimitable bluesy voice to a wide audience and caught the attention of the critics. Her most recent CD From the Sun (as well as its live counterpart, From the Sun Tour: Live in San Javier) finds her indie roots firmly established.

Vonda’s five-year stint with Ally McBeal not only included performing on each episode, but it also entailed being the show’s musical producer. She produced almost 500 songs over the show’s tenure, featuring artists such as Gladys Knight, Sting, Barry Manilow, Al Green, Chubby Checker, Jon Bon Jovi, and many more.

In the words of Chris Willman from Entertainment Weekly, “The singer/songwriter genre doesn’t get any better than this.”
