Kai is a young and upcoming star in the world of Flamenco guitar. he has performed all over the world (Russia, Japan, Europe, Mexico) as a soloist, bandleader and accompanist but he is still very passionate about demystifying flamenco for his students without ‘watering it down’ in any way.
In this first lesson of his introduction to Flamenco guitar, Kai introduces the chords and rhythms of "Tangos" one of the oldest and most popular forms of Flamenco (only distantly, if at all, related to the Argentine Tango).
Kai starts by explaining the basics of how to hold a guitar and then introduces the basic Tangos chord changes, starting with a simple two-chord version and then progressing, step by step, to more complex forms.
In the second section of the lesson, Kai introduces the "rasgueado", the lightning-fast guitar finger strumming technique that has become all but synonymous with Flamenco-style guitar. Kai begins with a very simple rasgueado and then introduces more complex (and faster) variations.
In the third section of the lesson, Kai introduces a variety of "falsetas" (essentially, riffs or melodic patterns that you can mix and match as you like). And in the fourth section of the lesson, Kai brings it all together by teaching you how to combine rhythm, chords and falsetas to create your own Tangos.
This lesson is designed primarily for beginning to intermediate-level guitarists. But the lesson will also be appealing to advanced guitarists who are new to Flamenco.
